At the CIA, there is plenty to do outside of the classroom. The Student Activities Office, housed in the Student Recreation Center, sponsors a variety of entertainment and leisure activities. These include dances, bands, comedy nights, films, special seasonal events, cooking competitions, and outdoor excursions such as hiking, downhill skiing, and whitewater rafting.

CIA students can join intramural sport opportunities in recreational skating, basketball, tennis, softball, flag football, racquetball, floor hockey, dodgeball, and volleyball. The CIA competes in soccer, cross country, basketball, tennis, and volleyball in the Hudson Valley Athletic Conference.

For leisure-time activities, students can enjoy nearby Catskill and Berkshire ski areas, local golf courses, Taconic State Park, and New York City museums and theaters. Contact the Student Recreation Center staff at 845-451-1400 (ext. 1400 on campus) for information on weekend activities and excursions in the Hudson Valley.
