Medical Referrals:
In the event that a student requires the services of a health care provider, such as a specialist, dentist, or eye doctor, Student Health Services can provide referral information.

Health Education:
Health education is provided on a one-on-one consultation basis, either in person or by telephone, on a variety of health-related issues. Educational information, pamphlets, and flyers are available regarding alcohol, drugs, HIV, STDs, smoking, and other topics. Information stations on college health issues are held monthly.

Insurance Information:
It is strongly recommended that students have health insurance. All medical services beyond those which are provided by Student Health Services are the personal responsibility of the student. The CIA participates in an optional student health insurance program, offered through Commercial Travelers Mutual Insurance Company. The costs for this optional insurance program are at the student's own expense (brochures are available at the Student Health Services Office). However, the CIA carries secondary student accident insurance coverage for physical accidents in the amount of $10,000 for each accident.

We strongly recommend that you review your individual insurance coverage with your parents or spouse to avoid any possibility of not being able to continue at the CIA due to unexpected medical expenses.

Immunization Requirements:
New York State law mandates that all students born after January 1, 1957 must show proof of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella. Students will not be allowed to attend classes or remain in college housing if this information has not been provided to Student Health Services. Hepatitis A vaccination is also a mandatory CIA requirement.

Confidentiality:
Students have a right to anticipate that their relationship with the professionals in Student Health Services will be one of complete confidence. All information and records pertaining to any aspect of a student's health are strictly confidential. This information will not be divulged to anyone without the knowledge and consent of the student. Except in emergencies, information concerning the nature of the illness or injury, diagnosis, and treatment plan will be provided to legally responsible parents or guardians only with the direct knowledge and permission of the student.
