Wireless Network

Residence Halls as well as several other buildings on campus are equipped with an 802.11 a/b/g compliant wireless network. We recommend that students bring a computer to campus so they may take full advantage of the wireless network.

Learn more about using wireless technology and Internet resources at the CIA:

* The Wireless Network is reserved for educational purposes. Computer to computer ad-hoc networks, wireless printers, wireless routers and signal boosters are prohibited and are in violation of the Student Computer and Network Usage Policy. We do not support VOIP, Skype, webcams, PDAs, online gaming and the use of video game consoles. Computers not meeting the Recommended Hardware Specifications and Software Requirements may not work with our wireless network and are not supported.

Peer-to-Peer File Sharing
Peer-to-peer file sharing is not allowed and is blocked on the CIA network using bandwidth shaping technology. Under the Higher Education Opportunity Act (H.R. 4137), illegal distribution of copyrighted materials may be subject to criminal and civil penalties. The CIA is legally obligated to assist authorities in identifying individuals who violate copyright law pertaining to peer-to-peer file sharing. It is also in violation of school policy to use technology designed to circumvent the blocking of this activity.
